ALASKA THE FINAL FRONTEIR

It is July 6 2007, I have returned from the Nushagak River, In the Bristol Bay area of Alaska. The fishing was average at best. The pressure on the fish is getting out of control. The commercial fisherman are taking there toll. I first started fishing the Nushagak river about 10 years ago. Ten years ago ther were about 1/4 the people on the river. Now, your lucky not to get hit by a float plane while your out in your boat. We did get all the fish we needed for our clients, but it was hard. There has been a proposed gold mine in the Iliamna area just north of the Nushagak river called the Pebble Mine. The proposed pebble mine is owned by a Canadian Company. They just plan to blow away 1 million acres, and tell us all it is enviromentally safe. The salmon do not have to worry we are looking out for them. Sort of like Hitler looking out for the Jewish people. Sorry for the harsh comparison. So I guess the reason I am telling you this is if you have not gotten to Alaska yet, get there soon so there is something left to see. With oil and gas after her, and now the gold mines. Ten years from now she will be in trouble, if she isnt already. I have seen it with my own eyes the effects of global warming. I fear for the future generations, what are they going to have left??I am happy to have seen Alaska 11 years ago, she is changing rapidly. Go see Alaska while there is still something to see..
